Junior Mia Ladores laughs with friends as she colors a Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon. Girl-Up Club hosts meetings every other Friday after school.

The Girl-Up Club hosted a meeting on Friday, Oct. 14 to discuss their club door decorating plans, Trunk-or-Treat donations and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The group also reviewed common facts and statistics about Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Girl-Up Club will be attending the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk as their first club event on Oct. 29.

The Girl-Up Club is a branch of the Girl-Up campaign where students focus on funding education for girls in third-world countries.

“We raise money for underprivileged girls to go to school in places where they can’t easily have access to education like we do. We also raise awareness for other real issues so it’s not just feminism,” Girl-Up Club president Nhavy Nguyen said.

The Girl-Up Club hosts meetings every other Friday after school. Meetings are held in Mrs. Douglas’s room, 3-124. The Girl-Up Club can be found on Instagram @girlup.hhs and is free and welcome for anyone, not just girls to join.
