Up by two sets early on, the boys varsity volleyball team secured a 3-1 win over Crooms Academy on Senior Night. After dropping the third set, the team responded by closing out the fourth set with ease, securing a 3-1 win over Crooms Academy and extending their win streak to three games.
The team’s early control showed in the set scores, winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-10 to take a quick lead. After dropping the third set 25-15, the team responded in dominant fashion, closing out the match with a 25-7 win in the fourth. The lopsided scores highlighted the team’s ability to control the pace and finish points efficiently throughout the night.
“I was really happy we got to end on such a good note,” senior Igor Sauer said. “It wasn’t the best opponent, but we still came out on top like we should have.”
The night was about more than just the win. Seniors were recognized before the game, marking their final home appearance and celebrating the years they have spent building the program. For many, the moment was emotional as they reflected on their time with teammates and coaches.
“My head was just flooded with all the memories over the years,” Sauer said. “I was thinking about all the teams I’ve been with and all the players and coaches who helped me get to where I am now.”
For seniors, the night represented more than just a final home game; it highlighted the relationships built over years in the program.
“It’s a brotherhood,” Sauer said. “We’ve all grown up together. I’ve known some of these guys since eighth grade, so getting to celebrate this day with them is really special.”
Senior Gavin Miller shared a similar perspective, emphasizing both the excitement and meaning behind the night.
“It’s something I’ve been looking forward to for the past three years,” Miller said. “It was a good way to end my career. It was fun, especially getting the last point of the game.”
Beyond emotions, the team’s performance reflected the consistency they have shown throughout the season. With a 16-8 record and second place in the district, the group has built strong momentum heading into the postseason.
Underclassmen also recognized the impact of the senior class, both on and off the court.
“It was really bittersweet,” junior Cooper Drewry said. “We’re happy we had a great season together, but it’s also sad since they’re leaving next year, and they make up a big part of our team.”
The leadership and experience of the seniors have helped shape the team’s identity, something younger players say will be difficult to replace.
“[The seniors have] impacted me mentally and in my playing,” Drewry said. “They have great sportsmanship and are fun to be around.”
As the team looks ahead to districts starting April 21st, the win provided both confidence and motivation to continue their success.
“It hypes us up and gets us ready to play our best for districts and hopefully states,” Drewry said.
While the season is not over yet, Senior Night served as a reminder of how much this group has meant to the program. For the seniors, ending their final home games with a win made the moment even more meaningful and gave the team momentum as they prepare for what comes next.
