The swim team wrapped up their season at regionals on Nov. 7, ending the meet with several high finishes and personal bests. The top performance came from senior Noah Stasik, who claimed first place in the one-meter dive, qualifying for states with a score of 588.45.
Continuing on the boys’ side, senior Ethan Yu placed 21st in the 50-yard freestyle, while senior Daniel Zou placed 21st in the 100-yard freestyle, and junior Tristan Hall finished 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly.
“I felt like I could’ve done better, but overall we did pretty good,” Hall said. “Most of our team beat our times, and we have one person going to states, so I felt good about it.”
The girls team finished 11th in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:59.50, while the boys placed 13th with a time of 1:47.29. In freestyle relays, the girls finished 14th in the 400-yard, and the boys earned 10th.
Individually, senior Marie Morris led the girls team with a seventh place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 25.39 seconds, improving from her score from last year of 26.18.
“I think we did good this year,” Morris said. “Most of our times, for both girls and boys, went down, so that shows improvement.”
Training played a major role in the team’s success this season. Swimmers practiced alternating between endurance and sprint workouts to build both strength and speed.
“We do specific sets,” Morris said. “We do aerobic day sets, for sure, longer sets, longer distances. And then we also do sprint sets, and the same warm up every single day, so it’s like we know what we’re doing when we get to a meet.”
Looking forward, the team plans to diversify practices by implementing a mix of 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard drills, while still focusing on individual progress.
“We all made advancements this year,” senior Elle Kushner said. “I was able to take multiple kicks in the finish of a backstrokes race, and I think that’s a great improvement.”
While only Stasik will advance to states on Nov. 14, the rest of the team will end their season at an upcoming banquet Nov. 18.
