Oviedo Update: Longhorn opens, Movie on the Park, and more

Food - Longhorn Steakhouse

Longhorn Steakhouse opened its Oviedo location on Sept. 2. The restaurant was met with extremely positive reviews receiving 4.9 stars on Google reviews within two weeks of opening. “Excellent food and wonderful service. So glad Longhorn came to Oviedo!” Oviedo resident Chris Beamer wrote.

Politics - Police station funds

After funds failed to pass on last year's ballot, voters will decide if additional bonds of $20,415,822 will be issued to the Oviedo police department to construct a new station. $11,400,000 was passed in 2016. A city hall meeting will be held Oct. 2.

Events - Movie in the Park

While a movie at the mall costs $15, you can enjoy a classic film for free at Oviedo on the Park. The 1978 comedy musical "Grease" will be shown at the main amphitheater lawn. Concession stands will be open throughout the event. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. The movie will start around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Traffic update - Dovera Drive and Oviedo Mall Boulevard

Students may want to pay a little more attention when driving to the mall. The traffic light at the intersection of Oviedo Oviedo Mall Boulevard and Dovera Drive has been damaged due to corrosion. The city has decided to install stop signs and turn the intersection into a three-way stop. It is unknown when a new light will be installed, if at all. The city of Oviedo asks drivers to “Be aware, pay attention and stop completely at the stop signs, following traffic rules.”
