Athletes sprint toward success during first meet

The night of Feb. 19, runners laced up their sneakers to run under the lights at the ‘Hagerty Developmental’ meet. Crooms, Lake Howell and Seminole all entered their athletes to compete in the second track meet ever held on campus. Although only the first meet of the season, the team defended their home track.
Girls were victorious in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, 1,600m run, 4x400m relay, discus, shot put and high jump.
Men also proved victorious in the 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 100m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, 1,600m run, 4x400m relay, discus and long jump.
Both the girl’s and boy’s teams placed first overall, with scores of 301 and 266 points.
“It was nice after running at so many other schools to finally get to run on our home track,” senior Tyler Copeland said.
Not only did the meet allow athletes to gain experience on the track, the meet also helped raise money for the school. The meet raised $476 in team participation fees and admission.
As the season progresses, athletes are hoping to gain more experience and improve their results. The next ‘Hagerty Developmental’ meet will be on March 12, at 4 p.m.
