On Wednesday, Dec. 6 the boys soccer team played rival Oviedo at home. Both teams started out aggressive, and the refs called a lot of fouls.

With 26:00 minutes left in the half, midfielder Muhammad Ali scored from just inside the box. Soon after, Oviedo scored off of a penalty kick to tie up the score.

Neither team could find the goal again as they entered halftime 1-1.

In the second half, the game had picked up tremendously as teams both came out firing. Early in the half, Jordan Snoap punched in another goal  from 18 feet out for the team with 35:20 left to play in the game. Oviedo started to get more aggressive and committed more fouls, leading to an injury with 22:10.

Another foul occurred as forward Nick Moreschi was shoved onto the concrete track almost causing a yellow card. Neither team was pleased by the fouls caused.

“It wasn’t a clean game,’’ Snoap said.

The defense for varsity was bending but not breaking, as Oviedo had two corners kicks with 9:50 left to play, but was unable to capitalize. Snoap took advantage of a breakaway again, and he scored to put the score out of reach 3-1.

“The defense played well, except when they gave up the one versus one but after that they stayed organized and allowed no more chances. It was easy to hold Oviedo,” goalie Daniel Dearolph said.

Varsity held on, winning 3-1.

“It was a rough game, but sometimes you need to win a rough game. I was proud of our whole team verse  for getting the win,” head coach Michael McAvoy said.
