Science Olympiad founders Karen Zhang and Zack Weishampel take a poll on tshirts for the club. The first meeting was held in new club sponsor Marc Pooler’s room.

The Science Olympiad held its first meeting on Friday, August 18 under the supervision of new sponsor Marc Pooler.

Science Olympiad is the main competition the club will focus on, but in the meeting two other competitions were discussed during the meeting.  This year, the club will also participate in the Envirothon and Science Bowl competitions.

The club is still taking new members and plans to meet twice a week once things get moving. Those who wish to join can do so by attending meetings. At the meetings, members will prepare for the Lake Nona Regional Competition in January.

“We didn’t really enforce attending meetings last year, so we’re going to have a stricter attendance policy this year,” senior Karen Zhang said.

Science Olympiad was founded last year by Zhang and senior Zack Weishampel After losing their sponsor at the end of last school year, Zhang and Weishampel asked Pooler to be the club’s sponsor.

“It’s people just learning science for the pursuit of having more knowledge,” Pooler said.  “I’ll support that.”
