Girls lacrosse soars past Lyman

Sophomore Bella Hernandez cradled the ball on her way to pass to a teammate in hopes of adding to their score.
As senior Reagan Pomp scored the final two goals of the game in a blowout of Lyman, her teammates, coaches, and the fans cheered her on.
On March 6, girls varsity lacrosse shut down Lyman, 19-1. The home game was a fun and energized time for the team as they were able to have everyone contribute.
“For us, this was a game that allowed the entire roster to play,” coach Mitch Whittington said. “That experience will help in the future.”
Prior to the game starting, the team’s energy was high. The girls enjoyed listening to music that pumped them up.
During the game, attackers Pomp, Katie Bolotte, Katie Williams, Joslin Hanbury and Carly Bitner all scored to keep a steady lead.
“We played really well and we worked on a lot of things that we needed to improve on,” Pomp said.
Going into the second half, Pomp scored two times and Bolotte got two assists. The game made their record 4-2 with losses against St. Thomas Aquinas and Lassiter. The win contributed to the goal of becoming three-time Seminole Athletic Conference champions.
Now the girls will look forward to their next game on Friday, March 15 against Alpharetta, a team from Georgia. Whittington hopes to clean up their gameplay and reduce the amount of turnovers for the upcoming game.
“We played well [against Lyman], and we worked on the offense but we have also played three easy teams in a row,” Pomp said. “Next Friday will be harder and more competitive.”
