The girl’s lacrosse team was victorious with a 12-1 win in a road game against conference rival, Lake Brantley on Thursday, March 1. The girls needed to beat them in order to secure the first place in the Seminole Athletic Conference championships that will follow later in the season.

“This game affects the rest of our season because it is a key win for us to defend our conference title,” defender Ashely Rassel said. “Our goal is to once again win the conference championship and this year to win districts and advance further in the playoffs.”

The team started out hot with a 4-0 run with goals by midfielders Laila Viator, Joslin Hanbury, Katie Williams, and attacker Katie Bolotte.  They kept the momentum and led 6-1 at the half.

Leading into the second half, the defense and goalie Alexis O’Brien, who finished with six saves including 2 FPA’s, strived to shut down Lake Brantley’s offense.

“The defense and I work together [amazingly], they are very vocal which is something I appreciate greatly,” O’Brien said. “We were able to defend the eight with great success and I cannot wait for the rest of the season.”

Later on in the half, Rassel made a an interception leading a  70 yard run down the field to pass the ball to attacker Chloe Gallant who then scored.

“It was a stellar performance by our defensive unit as a whole as well as being very efficient on offense,” head coach Mitch Wittington said.

Now, the girls look towards their next game which against St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, on Saturday, March 3.

“I believe the rest of our season will go smoothly, we have some very difficult games coming up but this team is prepared for anything,” O’Brein said.
