Priya Wilkhu, 11 – Chuluota
Not preparing for the hurricane, Priya Wilkhu and her family expected no damage or troubles due to the hurricane. However, when the hurricane hit Lake Pickett area, Wilkhu experienced a “dog hitting her house”, a flooded street and no power for nine days. After hearing a loud thud and a whimper, Wilkhu and her parents knew it was a dog who crashed against the house. After the hurricane, her neighbors took the flooding as an opportunity to skid-board, but she decided it was best for her to sleep over her friend’s house and avoid all the damage caused by Irma.
