First band concert shifts focus away from marching to concert season
The wind ensemble and both jazz bands held their first concert of the year on Wednesday, Oct. 9 after several weeks of preparation, including in-class time and multiple after school rehearsals. Members of the Chamber Winds class also performed, adding string and piano performances to the show.
The concert took place the week of their first marching competition as well as exams, giving band members a stressful few days, but, according to junior Grayson Sweeney, the bands were able to pull through and put on an excellent show.
“There were a lot of late nights and a lot of lost sleep,” Sweeney said. “But everything was really well thought out and all the ensembles had everything together.”
While the symphonic band did not perform, many students attended to support their fellow band members.
As the semester goes on, the band’s focus will shift between marching to concert music as they prepare for the Seminole County Marching Festival and Music Performance Assessment, as well as the annual showcase concert, Rhapsody in Blue, in December.
