A blow up obstacle course, music, photo booths, a cash wind tunnel, a candy bar and raffles will all be waiting for the class of 2017 on Friday, May 19 as they head to the courtyard for the Backyard Bash.

The Backyard Bash is a PTSA run event that aims to give graduates a final goodbye to each other and high school before graduation.

“It’s like a last hoorah for the seniors,” assistant principal Christy Bryce said.

It starts after the graduation rehearsal, around 4 p.m., and runs till 6:30 p.m. in the courtyard.

The event would not have been possible without major PTSA fundraisers like Cupcake Friday and restaurant nights, which raised a total of $8000.

Also, parent volunteers have been very helpful by signing up to donate prizes and snacks.

Backyard Bash committee chair Dawn Williams said, “It’s been a large group effort.”

There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, fruit, cookies and Jeremiah’s, as well as opportunities to win a mini fridge, a Keurig, and a dorm-sized television. Also, Bed Bath and Beyond, I tunes and restaurant gift cards will be awarded to raffle winners.

Not only is the event a big deal for the seniors as they close out their high school career but it is also big for the senior parents.

“It’s the last activity for the senior class, and it was so important to me to volunteer one last time for a school event,” Williams said. “[The event] will hopefully result in fond memories for not just my daughter but all her friends and classmate.”
