Tensions rose on Friday, Dec. 16 as the boys varsity basketball team lost to rival Oviedo in a close game of 72-69, leaving the team 3-2 overall.

Center Joe Conley, forward Will Faulk and guard Jordan Cox led the team with Faulk scoring 22 points to increase the final score to only a three-point trail.  The team was hopeful and confident going in, but fell behind Oviedo throughout the game.

“Going into the game, I felt confident that we could win,” head coach Josh Kohn said. “But I knew that if we didn’t, I wouldn’t be shocked because Oviedo has a lot of talent.”

The team faces their rival twice annually. Last season, the games were split: the team lost the first game was 74-49 but won the second game, 69-66. The team was going in to defend the win but fell short.

Even with confidence in the team’s starting five, Kohn knows there is room for improvement.

“The thing we need to improve on the most is our focus and concentration. We can go from being really consistent to having some players off on their own island, and that’s what we need to work on.” Kohn said.
The day before, the team soared past Celebration, 70-44. The next game of the season will be on Monday, Dec. 19 at home against Harmony at 7:30 P.M.
