Oviedo holds annual holiday parade
On Saturday, Dec. 10, the city of Oviedo held its annual Holiday Parade in Oviedo on the Park. The band marched in the parade alongside cologuard, like they do every year.
The parade consisted of floats from local businesses and boy and girl scout troops. Every year the band plays a medley of Joy to the World, Good King Wenceslas and Hark the Harold Angels Sing, while cologuard performed a short flag routine. Alumna Kautia Matyko and Cassandra Hensley performed a baton routine.
Vendors set up booths as well as multiple food trucks. Oviedo Recreation and Parks had two snow mountains for kids and four large snow slides for everyone. Hundreds of people attended to take apart in the festivities.
“A couple people yelled out to me that their child was in the band a few years ago,” sophomore Emma Register said. “It was so much fun.”
With the combination of the band, colorguard performances, the kids handing out candy, and the finale with Santa Claus sitting on top of a fire truck, the parade seemed to be a success.
“The holiday parade is a fun way to celebrate the holidays, right here in Oviedo,” sophomore Hannah VanHoozier said.
