In the final home game of the regular season schedule Friday night, the varsity football team shellacked Edgewater by a score of 51-0.

“[The team] wanted to win quickly, put [the game] out of reach and then let all the other kids play,” head coach Phil Ziglar said.

The night revolved around the seniors in more ways than one, as six of the seven touchdowns of the night were scored by seniors. One was scored by defensive back Doug Myers, who managed to return an Edgewater fumble to the end zone.

“It feels good just to know that it’s my senior night and I could contribute to my team,” Myers said. “It was a good feeling.”

Myers’ score was not the only defensive score of the night. A safety was scored after a bad snap that went over the Edgewater punter’s head and through the end zone. Also, linebacker Leo Gomez returned a blocked punt for a score.

On the offensive side of the ball, Gomez and running backs Tavis Thompson and Tony Felix each scored rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Fisher Greene contributed two scores, with one rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to receiver Caleb Lowe. They were Greene’s first two touchdowns of the season.

“We did this as a team, worked as a team, and that’s how we came on top: as a team,” Greene said.

The final away game of the regular season will be at Timber Creek on Nov. 4, and the team has a playoff game in Gainesville against Bucholtz on Nov. 11.
