At 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, Seminole County Public Schools announced that school will be cancelled Thursday and Friday.  On Tuesday the county announced it would make a decision by noon on Wednesday, and the announcement brought a wave of rescheduling.

Sporting events have to be rescheduled, and athletics director Jay Getty recommends athletes pay attention to the @HagertySports Twitter account for updates.

The Friday night varsity football game against East Ridge will be moved to Monday, and freshman games moved up a day from Thursday to Wednesday.  Additionally, the volleyball and cross country teams will no longer be travelling to their meets on Saturday and Sunday.

More than exams and sporting events will be impacted by the changes. The JROTC-run blood drive originally scheduled for Thursday will now be held Monday, Oct. 17.

Exams were originally scheduled to be taken on Friday, Oct. 7, Monday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 11, but will now be taken on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the following week.  This means that 7^th period exams will take place on Tuesday, 1^st, 3^rd and 5^th period exams will take place on Thursday and 2^nd, 4^th and 6^th period exams will take place on Friday.

The days missed will be made up on Thursday and Friday of next week, originally scheduled as teacher work days.

“Teachers will have to work on days that were originally days for planning or grading,” school administrative manager Camille Cassara said. “The positive is that students will have more time to prepare [for exams].”
