It takes more than rain to shut down homecoming week.  On Monday, Sept. 26, Flick on the 50 was held for the first time in three years, despite weather inconveniences.

The event was held as part of homecoming week activities and was sponsored by Leadership.  Over 200 students and community members showed up with blankets to watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

The Leadership class made $1115 from ticket sales and $163 from concessions.  The money, $800 after covering expenses, will go toward the Breast Cancer Research Foundation as part of the class’s Pink’d fundraiser.

Even though the event was planned to be held on the football field, rainy weather conditions forced it to be moved inside to the old gym, but no other obstacles arose.

“We had a bigger turnout than we expected because we didn’t have any of our previous materials to go off of, so this whole event was made from scratch,” event chair Karley Harms said.

The last time Flick on the 50 was held was in 2013.  In 2014 and 2015, a dodgeball tournament was held instead.  After only two teams signed up to compete last year, the switch back to Flick on the 50 was made.

“I didn’t go freshman year because I didn’t know what it was, but I’m really glad I went this year,” senior Maegan Thompson said.
