Magic show new to senior week
A night of mind-boggling tricks and acts awaited those who attended Magic Sebastian’s show as part of this year’s senior week. On Monday, April 18, school alumnus Sebastian Midtvaage hosted an Evening of Wonder for students and community members in the auditorium.
The PTSA-organized event drew in a crowd of 110 and $1,110 in ticket sales. Profits were split evenly between Midtvaage and the PTSA.
The show focused on audience interaction through illusionary and mind reading acts. Senior Sadler Lindsay was the first person to get called up on stage to assist with an illusion act.
“What makes it even more special is that he is a Hagerty alumnus, so some people still remember how great of a magician he is from high school,” Lindsay said, referencing the Magic Mondays segment Midtvgaage used to hold on WOOFTV.
The Senior Activities Committee planned the event starting in February when Midtvaage was recommended to committee chair Melissa Mercado by a neighbor. Mercado thought it would be a good replacement for the hypnotist show that used to be a part of homecoming.
To promote the event, the committee reached out to the City of Oviedo to advertise on their Bright House channel, hung up signs around school, and filmed promos for WOOFTV.
“We hope to have him come back to Hagerty not only as an alumnus so we can see his success in the coming years, but also for the community to see this kind of caliber of talent,” Mercado said.
