Junior class hosts BJ’s Brewhouse spirit night
On Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 6-10 p.m. at BJ’s Brewhouse in Oviedo, the Student Government Association held a spirit night to raise funds for the junior class.
Fundraiser participants were required to present pre-printed flyers at the event, which were distributed to teachers at the beginning of the quarter and tweeted out by the junior class Twitter account, @hagertysga17. With each flyer presented, BJ’s donated 15 percent of all food and soft beverage sales to the junior class. Total revenues are still being calculated.
“Since it was right after break, we didn’t have much time to advertise, so for future fundraisers, we’ll hopefully have more time,” junior class president Sierra Hittel said. “We’re hoping to have some more [fundraisers] toward the end of the quarter so teachers can offer extra credit.”
Revenues raised from the event will go not only toward the 2017 prom, but will also contribute to volunteer events the junior class will be conducting in the future. According to treasurer Makenna Lehmann, the junior class plans to volunteer at Pet Rescue by Judy and hold two car washes: one benefiting Relay for Life and one benefiting the class of 2017 in general.
Class leaders note that they will begin touring hotels in search of next year’s prom venue this semester.
“Right now our goal is just to fundraise so we don’t have to do as much senior year,” junior class vice president Karley Harms said.
The junior class will be holding its next fundraiser Jan. 14 at Jeremiah’s Italian Ice on Lockwood Blvd.
