Despite a lot of turnover from last season’s team, beach volleyball continues to win, and on Feb. 25 they won 3-2 against Winter Springs. The girls winning pairs were Eva Woolm and Layla Miller, Sophia Wattles and Isabella Ferretti, Brielle Foscolo and Alexis Zimmerman.
In the first match of the game, Wattles and junior Isabella Ferretti crushed the number four team, 21-12. While it started off as a close game, the two were able to open up a gap in the score as the game continued.
As a third-year player, Ferretti has played consistently for all three seasons. Ferreti and Wattles have been teammates in indoor volleyball for 6 years. While it is Wattles first year playing beach, their chemistry and years together have helped them excel both indoors and outdoors.

“Some strengths we had in this game were our shots because our opponent couldn’t get them up. Our communication was really good, we were non-stop talking about what to do,” Ferretti said.
Sophomore Brielle Foscolo and freshman Alexis Zimmerman won their game 21-14, thanks to their strong defense and serving.
“Something you can always improve on is communication because you can never talk enough,” Foscolo said.
Junior Allyson Leach and junior Mikayla Miessler lost their game 21-14. Leach and Miessler are in their third year of playing together for Hagerty, playing tournaments together for club beach. Leach has already committed to Palm Beach Atlantic University to continue playing beach volleyball in college.
“Even though we lost, we put up a good fight and had many really good shots against them. We definitely need to work on our communication together,” junior Allyson Leach said.

For the last three seasons, girls beach volleyball has advanced to the state tournament in Tallahassee. They made the final four in 2022 and the elite eight in 2023 and 2024. Their main goal this season is to win states.
“This season [has been] pretty fun overall, and [I hope] we continue to win. I think we will go far and go to Tallahassee,” Wattles said.
Next for the girls is their game on March 5 against Seminole High School. In past years, they have had much success against Seminole, never losing a game against them.
“This is one of my favorite groups of girls to play with; it doesn’t only feel like a team but also a big friendship. I’m so excited to move forward with this team,” Leach said.
