Halloween is a holiday many people look forward to. Between trick or treating, going to themed parties and watching spooky movies, Halloween has something for everyone. However, many find that Halloween is more fun when dressing up with a friend group or a significant other. and Several students wore similar costumes, taking inspiration from popular sources like TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest. Here are some trending costumes students wore.
Cheetah
Cheetah is the most popular costume this year, seen all over Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. So if you wanted to dress up with your friends, cheetahs were the easiest option. Cheetah costumes are relatively straightforward, with cheetah-print ears and cheetah-print clothes. For some, this was a black mini skirt and cheetah top or the opposite, while others wore full cheetah print sets.
“I picked this costume because I thought it was cute and would be fun to do… I enjoy wearing ears and doing different makeup on Halloween,” sophomore Gabrielle Foltak said.
Many girls have done crazy makeup for this costume, from smokey eyes to cheetah print dots everywhere.
“I did cheetah print dots on my everyday base, but I added more bronzer so the cheetah prints would look better. I also did a little wing eyeliner and some light brown eyeshadow to make my eyes look more cat-like,” sophomore Sophia Austin said.
Like many costumes, you can match with other people by wearing different versions of cheetah print outfits, but some people have sought other matching opportunities.
“I am being party animals with my friends so one of them is a black cat, the other is a tiger and I am a cheetah,” sophomore Chelsea Townsend said.
Princess
Princess was another popular costume, as people channeled their inner Disney princesses. Girls tended to pick the princess that looked the most like them, usually wearing a mini skirt and a corset in the color of the princess’s dress.
“I picked to be Tiana from Princess and the Frog because I liked the colors of her dress and she was one of the few princesses that had the same hair type as me,” junior Isabella Cruz said.
Some girls even made their own tops by adding ribbon or cutting fabric.
“I bought the [Ariel from the Little Mermaid] costume on Amazon and I decorated the top myself using pearls, shells, and a net from Michael’s,” junior Isabella Ferretti said.
Many friend groups coordinated costumes to become princesses together.
“I wasn’t sure what to be [at first]…I was talking about princesses with my friends and they thought I should be Belle because of her brown hair,” junior Sophia Wattles said.
Dalmatian and firefighter
While friend groups dressed up together, couples costumes were also popular this Halloween, including dalmatian and firefighter.
“I originally got the idea from scrolling on Pinterest, then I saw a TikTok video and decided that’s what I wanted to be because I thought it was so cute,” junior Allyson Leach said.
The majority of girls wore a black skirt and a dalmatian print shirt, or the opposite with dalmatian print bottoms and a black top. The guys wore all black paired with a firefighter hat, and some wore red suspenders to finish the outfit.
“I bought my firefighter hat from Party City and the rest I already had in my closet,” junior Daniel Frade said.
Many girls also wore dalmatian spotted dog ears and did some makeup.
“I did just my normal makeup and did dog makeup with a dog nose and dalmatian spots,” sophomore Sabrina Gimena said.
Sailor
Seen among a sea of people, the sailor was another popular costume.
“My oldest sister was a sailor with one of her friends a few years ago and I thought it was really cute,” sophomore Bailey Lott said.
Many girls wore white bottoms, a blue shirt and a captain’s sailor hat, while some wore all blue dresses with tights. Many girls did their regular makeup but changed a few things.
“I did blue eyeshadow to match my dress and to add more fun,” senior Ella Kaplan said.
Many girls found this costume while scrolling through Pinterest and did their own version of the costume.
“My friends and I picked it as it was a last-minute costume and thought it was a cute idea for the three of us to just put together since we already had the hats,” sophomore Makayla Turgeon said.
Many groups all went as sailors since it’s hard to match with anything else, but some girls had other ideas.
“I was a sailor and my friend was a mermaid so it was like I discovered her,” Kaplan said.
Cops and prisoners
Cops and prisoners have always been very popular joint costumes, with girls dressed as cops and guys dressed as prisoners.
“I saw it on TikTok and decided it was a good idea since we all wanted to match and it was a bigger group,” sophomore Santiago Vargas said.
With this costume, the cops either wore a cop jumpsuit with a badge or jean bottoms and a black/blue top with a badge.
“Between the boys and the girls, everyone’s outfit was a bit different between different skirts and tops,” sophomore Etta-Grace Smith said.
Most of the prisoners just wore an orange prison jumper, usually bought from Spirit Halloween or Amazon. The girls just kept their regular everyday makeup, with the addition of more eyeliner.
“It was simple and cute since I didn’t have much time to decide on it,” sophomore Kylee Matos said.
Matching as a big group can be a lot harder to coordinate, as some people want to do other things or wear a different outfit. However, this costume idea gave enough leeway for people’s creativity.
“It was so much fun to all match together but still pick the type of outfit we wanted,” sophomore Julia Wood said.
