With the arrival of Hurricane Milton and school’s cancellation last week, all sporting events were rescheduled until further notice. This has been a very busy time for athletic director Jay Getty and assistant athletic director David Attaway, who have been trying their best to accommodate everyone involved.
“All sports events for [last] week have been canceled and moved to [this] week; we are working on getting those rescheduled dates right now,” Attaway said.
Even before the actual storm hit, many teams were trying to squeeze in last minute games on Monday, Oct. 7. Girls volleyball moved their senior night game against Seminole from Tuesday to Monday. A scheduled game against Lake Brantley on Thursday and a makeup game (due to Hurricane Helene) at Lyman on Friday have both been canceled.
“With girls volleyball, the district tournament starts [this] week, so whatever is not played will not be made up,” Getty said.
Boys football also had a game scheduled at Lake Brantley on Thursday, but that game has now been rescheduled for today, Monday, Oct. 14, starting at 7 p.m.
The swim team was supposed to have their SAC all county meet on Wednesday, Oct. 8 but now faces cancellations, with rescheduled dates to be determined. The boys golf SAC championships were rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Twin Rivers.
In order to reschedule a game, the athletic directors are required to hear from the district and then after their decision on when it is safe to play again, they begin to get to work.
“We wait until the district decides we are allowed to do events and then we contact the other school and coaches to work out an appropriate time to reschedule,” Attaway said.
Students who are trying to figure out what games are being played and where can find them on the school’s social media platforms.
“The bulk of our communication will be through our athletic feeds, @Hagertysports on Twitter/X and on Facebook,” Getty said.
