FOX35 News came to both Hagerty and Oviedo High School on Oct. 4 to broadcast live, as part of their Friday Football Blitz franchise. They showcased the mini-pep rally taking place during break in the courtyard toward building 9.
On the scene was FOX35’s Marley Capper who was present at the pep rally to talk to Frasca and members of staff.
“Everybody was really excited to be a part of the spirit squad, or to be in band, to kind of add to the hype,” Capper said. “All the students I talked to are just excited to not only to be here today, but just having that school pride and that school spirit.”
The mini-pep rally included members of the band, cheer team, dance team and football team, accompanied by faculty and staff. The entire student body watched from the sidelines.
“It was pretty exciting, I wouldn’t expect them to come to our school. I was really surprised,” junior Nadia Pelayo said. “When I found out, I told a bunch of my friends. I felt super excited, super pumped-up.”
Capper talked to varsity football coach Steven Mikles about the team’s readiness for the game later that evening. Mikles declared his excitement in playing off against Oviedo.
“We had a good week at practice, I think the kids are ready to go. I mean, it’s rivalry week,” Mikles said.
On the other side of the rivalry, Fox35’s David Martin traveled to Oviedo’s campus to talk with their principal, Dr. Trent Daniel, football coach Greg Odierno and athlete of the week Nathan Tivate, sharing their excitement for the showdown.
“All the videos that I’ve seen so far, I think it’s equally hyped. It’s a big rival game. They’re just as excited as we are here,” Capper said. “Both teams want to win. Both teams are excited.”
In the end, Hagerty lost to Oviedo (42-28) but the team’s hopes are high for their next match against Lake Brantley.
