During the game, down 13-5, the girls varsity volleyball team was struggling in the third set of their match against Lake Mary. They changed their defense and realized where the ball was being placed, making them claim their way back up.
The game ended with an ace from Samiya Bolten, a 3-0 sweep for the varsity team.
“At that moment (down 13-5), we realized that we were way better than what we were playing so we started to lock in on defense and put more balls away,” outside hitter Mikayla Miessler said.
Hagerty put in their A-game and took the win. They won the first set, 25-15, the second set, 25-16, and the third set, 25-15. Miessler got 12 kills and Jeness Orcutt helped the team with six kills and 13 attacks. Setter Brielle Mullen had 22 assists.
The team is 8-4 with dominating wins against Lake Howell, Lake Mary, and DME Academy. With losses against Lovejoy, TCHS, BRCHS and Pace Academy in their first tournament in Gainesville.
“This game went well,” libero Allyson Leach said. “I feel like we played as a team, if I made a mistake it was easy to move on because of how supportive we are and encouraging us to get the next point.”
Before this game, the team lost three games in a row, but have begun turning it around, winning four games in a row at their most recent tournament in jacksonville when they played DME Academy, Gainesville, HTEA, and Creekside.
Even with the 3-0 sweep, the team is still looking to improve and build for the next games and postseason.
“We have the Oviedo game coming up soon so to prepare we are doing everything at practice to get us ready to play them and play to our best ability,” Leach said.
Despite the tough games and losses this season, the team continues to try and practice as hard possible to improve for the rest of the season.
“I think this year has gone pretty good so far. This team has so much potential and I think our future is very promising. I think from here on out it’s all about how bad we want it and how hard we are willing to work for it,” Miessler said.
