You should race to watch
Racing on Rainbow Road, Toad Kingdom and fighting Bowser, all part of the 1985 classic video game that has now hit the big screen.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was released in theaters on April 3, grossing millions of box office dollars in the first couple of days. It follows Mario (Chris Pratt) as he and Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) work to get Luigi (Charlie Day) back from Bowser (Jack Black), who is trying to take over the world.
With big names like Pratt, Taylor-Joy and Black, the movie had everything it needed to be great, and with excellent acting from every character, it was just that.
While no character disappointed, one of the most notable performances came from Black. While Bowser is the main villain in the story, viewers cannot help but love and empathize with him. Moments where Bowser shows his admiration for Peach or gets mad over a little problem are portrayed perfectly by Black. Although Bowser’s character is funny in general and has become a meme within days of the movie’s release, Black’s acting ties everything together.
Despite its video game origins, the movie is still extremely enjoyable for those who might not like games. While the movie has aspects of the game, the humor and events are all original. One of the best aspects that every person can not help but love is the Blue Star whose blunt yet funny remarks make the movie.
With crazy settings like Toad Kingdom and Rainbow Road, animation had to be perfect, and the movie did not disappoint. Every part of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” looked smooth, put together and nothing looked random or out of place.
While every aspect of the movie was designed beautifully and casted perfectly, one letdown was the lack of screen time for some characters. While the movie did not center around characters like the star or some of Bowser’s bad guys, these little aspects really made a difference and the directors could have added time for these people.
Despite this, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is one everyone should race to watch. Although it is based on a game, between the amazing actors, movie execution and the sheer number of memes it has produced, this movie has something for everyone.
