Flor de amor
There is nothing better than giving a Valentine’s Day gift to a friend or someone you care about, but deciding on what to get that special someone can be difficult. Spanish Honor Society solves this issue by giving students the opportunity to give the gift of flowers at Flor de amor.
SHS runs Flor de amor every year during the two weeks prior to Valentine’s Day. Students are able to walk up to a table in the back of cafeteria at either lunch and order as many carnation flowers as they want for whoever they want. The carnations are $2 and come in three colors: red, pink and white. Students also have the opportunity to write a message to go with their flower.
I think it’s a good idea because you can give one or however many to your friends or who you’re dating,” senior Thalia Valazquez said. “It’s just a nice way to say that you’re appreciated and loved.”
Flower sales are until Feb. 12 and since Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday this year, the carnations will be delivered to student’s mid-block classes on Feb. 13.
Flor de amor is not a regular fundraiser as none of the money even goes to the society. Instead, it all goes back to the flower store who provided the flowers.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Hagerty High School. Your contribution helps us publish six issues of the BluePrint and cover our annual website hosting costs. Thank you so much!
