Listen before it’s ‘Too Late’
Whether it is sensual, vengeful or lyrics full of self-doubt, every song on the album “SOS” is captivating from beginning to end. Released Dec. 9, “SOS” is the second album for R&B singer SZA, featuring 23 songs. While her first album “Ctrl” was a hit with two billboard hits, her newest album is better than expected and has held the number one spot on the Billboard 200, beating out “Midnights” by Taylor Swift for almost a month.
Despite covering a wide range of topics in her songs, SZA did not have a single song that disappoints. Whether it is “Love Language” or “F2F,” every song is full of catchy lyrics that you can not help but sing along to.
But SZA did not stop with the lyrics, she tied every song up nicely with a bow of instrumentals and beats. One song with the best instrumental was “Low.” The song makes you want to get in your car and turn your volume all the way up just to hear the bass.
However, while each song is good, at some moments the album would switch from a fun, faster song to slower songs. For example, when she transitions from “Notice Me” to “Gone Girl,” she unexpectedly slows down the pace and brings down the mood a bit. Although these songs mellow you out, if this album is looked at as a collection of great songs rather than a perfectly matched album, there is no issue. So suggestion, just hit shuffle.
Despite the mood changes, “SOS” is not an album to ignore. Every song is crafted with amazing lyrics you can sing to and listen to at full volume. Whether you are into R&B, rap or pop, this is an album for everyone. This album just screams “Notice Me.”
