Chorus performs “Fall Tune-Up” concert
Chorus teacher Christopher Hickey made all the adults in the auditorium stand up. Confused by what was happening, nearly all of them filed to the front and looked back and forth at each other. Mr. Hickey announced the entire auditorium will be warming up together.
Chorus had their first concert of the year, known as the Fall Tune-Up, on Thursday, Sept. 8. They performed songs such as “Over the Rainbow” and “Pure imagination.”
Each year, the Fall Tune-Up features simple music to get the freshman used to the process of learning and performing songs and help get returning students back into the swing of things. The night is also used to inform the parents of what the year is going to look like and allow them to go through paperwork for safety and to become a chorus booster.
“I think the kids had a blast and honestly, it’s just an excuse for us to hang out all day and play some games and have some fun.” Hickey said.
The chorus department has grown, due to both the influx of freshmen and increase of interest from upperclassmen. Nonetheless, the chorus still hopes to increase its number of students in the coming years.
Through all of their preparation for the concert, some also had to study and prepare for chorus All-State, studying for a two-part test that covers music theory and vocabulary.
Overall, the students were proud of how they did at this concert, considering certain factors, such as concert choir not having access to sheet music until the concert.
“You can see how much everyone has put into the songs performed tonight. Of course with time the songs will get better, but with the time we were given I feel we all did a tremendous job,” junior Carter Wegman said.
