‘Look Both Ways’ before watching this
A future determined by the outcome of one test. Netflix’s new rom-com “Look Both Ways,” released Aug. 17, threw watchers for a loop as they tried to solve what was fantasy and what was reality.
The movie follows Natalie (Lili Reinhart), a recent college graduate in two alternate realities, one where she becomes pregnant and the other where she moves to Los Angeles for her dream job.
The movie was not life changing, but it does the trick for a lazy afternoon when you have nothing else to do.
The movie keeps good balance as the mood switches back and forth between light-hearted and fun, where viewers get to see animations and silly things like goats, to more intense scenes showing the reality of single parenthood and dealing with depression after having a child.
At first, viewers might be uneasy with the overly typical plot but, as it went on it felt like a relief to see that an unexpected pregnancy can lead to a positive, happy life.
For many young women thinking about kids in the future can be extremely scary. The movie was able to show how though pregnancy may put other things on the back burner for a while, you can still pursue and achieve what you want in life.
The main character was relatable through her struggles and hardships to try and feel good enough. Reinhart puts on an emotional performance that makes viewers connected to her character.
Even though the movie was sweet, the ending still felt very abrupt. It left many questions unanswered, never giving a real explanation of what path her life took.
Overall, the movie is recommended and good for young women moving into adulthood.
