Shooting guard Hannah Kohn helps lead the varsity girls basketball team to a 87-23 win over Lyman. Kohn broke the national record for most three-pointers shot during a game, with 19 three-pointers.

The plan was to get 11 three-pointers, but in the first half, shooting guard Hannah Kohn already had 11.

By the end of the game, the girls varsity basketball team beat Lyman 87-23, with Kohn making 19 of 20 three-pointers taken, breaking a national record.

“She is one of the humblest and hardest-working players on our team so she deserved it,” center Edie Wilkins said.

Kohn finished the game with a career high 61 points and her 19 three-pointers broke the previous national record by two.

“I felt excited to go out there after the game the night before, and to be able to go out there and win,” Kohn said.

Going into the game, the team knew who they were facing and knew the strengths and weaknesses of Lyman. Good shooting has been a strength this season, and despite some early season losses, the team feels they are heading in the right direction.

“We had a big game [Monday] night against Timber Creek that honestly prepared us for this entire week going forward,” point guard Kiara Harris said. “It gave us momentum, even though we lost, and prepared us mentally for what comes next.”

Looking forward to the rest of the season, the girls have high hopes.

“We are getting better each game and I think once we keep coming together as a team and running what we are supposed to run, we are going to be better than you think,” Kohn said.

The team’s next game will be Thursday Dec. 9, against Gateway at Hagerty. JV starts at 6 p.m. and varsity starts at 7:30 p.m.
