Guard Katherine Castro is dribbling the ball at practice during a drill. The girl’s varsity basketball team lost to Eustis 58-55, Thursday Nov. 18.

Coming off of a win against Seminole to start their season, the team felt more prepared as they transitioned to their Thursday, Nov. 18 game against Eustis High School.

“I felt more prepared than our first game, but I felt like we could have played more as a team, and we could have played harder than we did,” shooting guard Hannah Kohn said.

The team was well prepared as they started the game. They were beating Eustis until the second half.

“We did really well in the first half, but after the first half, they just came back and we didn’t perform our best,” forward Ana Roman said. “We had a lot of unnecessary fouls, so that kind of made us angry and not focused during the second half of the game.”

Eustis played very aggressively, which was an ongoing challenge for the defense.

“They’re very physical, they could drive really well and they had a lot of rebounds which made the game faster,” Kohn said.

The score was close for the most part during the game, with lots of back and forth and resistance. Point guard Kiara Harris had a clutch play when the team was down by nine points which kept the team in the game.

“Kiara, one of our players, hit three big threes to keep us in the game when we were down by nine,” Kohn said. “She is one of our clutch players who gets the job done.”

The team lost 58-55.

“I feel like we really could have destroyed that team,” Roman said. “We just need to keep working hard, play better defense and be more disciplined.”

The team has high hopes for this season, as long as they keep moving forward and working together, Kohn believes that the team will be strong this year.

“I think once we come together and play as a team and get organized, we have a lot of potential,” Kohn said.

The team’s next game will be Nov. 23 against Faith Christian Academy at Faith Christan Academy, starting at 6:30 p.m,
