Pretty voice, poison music

Released Sept. 10 by Nessa Barrett, “pretty poison” is made up of seven songs, Barrett’s first EP. On platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, fans will be disappointed listening to these songs.

The new hot trend is TikTokers, or social media influencers in general, trying to become singer songwriters, whether they can sing or not. Nessa Barrett is one of the few, however, who actually has the talent to make it in the music industry.

Released Sept. 10, “pretty poison” is Barrett’s first EP of seven songs. Throughout multiple platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, fans may be disappointed with the music Barrett has come out with.

The date Barrett launched “pretty poison” is also World Suicide Prevention Day. Barrett expressed that her reason for writing the EP was to show people what she has been through in her life in an interview with Billboard. Yes, her reason for writing this EP may have spoken to a lot of young people, but the songs were unfortunately not worth the listen.

The only songs that might be worth listening to again would be the chorus of “i hope ur miserable until ur dead” and the beginning of “keep me afraid,” but not a whole song. The rest of the songs on the album were not worth listening to.

“pretty poison” gave a lot of wannabe old Billie Eilish vibes throughout the songs.  Barrett’s tone to these soundtracks were very dark and edgy, something she used in a lot of her music but “pretty poison” was a lot darker.

It is unfortunate that Barrett’s EP did not turn out to be as good as it could have been. Her voice is beautiful and the covers she posts on social media are always amazing, but “pretty poison” was a definite let down.
