Bowling team wins against Oviedo
Sports teams are used to having big games in the middle of the season, but for the boys bowling team their first match might have been their most important. On Aug 23, the boys bowling team faced Oviedo at the Oviedo Bowling Alley, finishing with a 2396-2207 victory. The team was led by senior Chase Ramen with an individual score of 405 and senior Jacob Daleandro with 379.
“[We] had a few guys underperform the first game so that made the second a little more worrisome than normal, but our boys did a great job at closing out,” Head Coach Jacob Colquhoun said.
The rivalry against Oviedo has been going on for years, so for the boys the win against Oviedo was a meaningful start for their upcoming 15 matches this season. The win was a good comeback from the loss against Oviedo at districts last year.
“It was a great win and I hope we can do it again,” senior Chase Ramen said.
The team will play Oviedo again on Sept 22 at Oviedo Bowling Alley.
The team had been practicing together every Monday through Thursday since it was finalized on Aug 10. During practices, the team would work on their baker order, where five bowlers take turns each bowling a frame to complete a 10-frame game.
“Everyone has been working hard and practicing at every time they get trying to better themselves and the team and it all helps in preparation for the upcoming season,” senior Jacob Daleandro said.
This year’s team has a mix of 10 new and returning members, including Daleandro.
“We have a team that’s been growing so much every year for the past couple of years and it’s something that’s really noticeable but overall great to see,” Daleandro said.
The teams next match will be against Crooms on Aug 30 and will start at 3:30 p.m., located at Airport Lanes.
“We preach a lot about never settling and not being content with whatever outcome it is, so we will all look to continue improving as the season continues, whether it follows success or failure,” Colquhoun said.
