These lyrics of Taylor Swift’s legendary hit “Love Story” are ingrained in the minds of anyone who grew up in the 2010s, making Swift’s decision to re-record her album to gain full ownership of them all the more exciting. Despite being recorded over a decade later, the songs are just as enrapturing as they were the first time listeners fell in love with them. 

By far, the best part of “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” is the development of Taylor’s voice. “Fearless” has always dealt with themes of loss and conflict in songs like “You’re Not Sorry” and “Breathe,” but now that Swift is a decade older with a lot more experience under her belt, her voice has an air of complexity that adds layers to songs like “Tell Me Why.” 

The heart of the album is the energetic songs with memorizable lyrics for listeners to sing along to. As always, songs like “You Belong With Me” are perfect for screaming along in the car with friends, and “White Horse” is the perfect background song for crying over someone manipulative. Included in the album is six songs listeners have never heard before. These “from the vault” songs, which were rejected from the original 2008 album, entertain listeners with riveting new songs reminiscent of Swift’s previous eras. “Mr. Perfectly Fine” is the best, with an upbeat tempo and relatable lyrics expressing anger and resentment at a former relationship.
