Everyone smiled when senior Matt Workman, leading a group of boys, stepped up to the center of the circle and started singing “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey, harmonizing with the choir’s background vocals.

Husky Howl, the new club for chorus students only, started Monday, Aug. 18 and will continue to meet every Monday.

Students were anxious to jump in, splitting into four sections, repeatedly singing four harmonizing notes to warm up. Students then started joining each other in singing verses from their favorite songs including “21 Guns” by Green Day and “Someone Like You” by Adele.

“We got to just hang around, sing together, and just see what other people can do,” sophomore Cole Monica said.

Excited after finishing their warmup, members discussed plans for the club. Chorus teacher Tori Rathbun has plans for the club to be student run and to give a hands-off experience.

“I think once we get our leadership program it will be perfect,” junior Jordan Rhody said.

Rathbun also announced that the club would only be open to chorus students and will be showcased in chorus concerts including Show of Affections on Feb. 13.

“It’s great because then they can do what they want to do and it kind of takes the old person out of the picture,” Rathbun said. “It’s a good way for me to learn as well as them.”

Rathbun’s inspiration came from always wanting to be in a chorus club herself when in school and has high hopes for the continuation of the club and its effects on those attending.

“I really think it’s going to help the chorus overall become just a more cohesive, family-oriented group,” she said.
