Softball goes on winning streak
The softball team finished the week of March 3-7 with two wins, adding on to their 11-0 undefeated record. They faced Spruce Creek, beating them 5-2 and Lake Mary, beating them 2-1. Varsity players Alex Miller and Jordan Miller, sisters on the team, lead the game against Lake Mary.
This week they will face University of Orange City, East River and Lyman.
“I think that Orange City will be a close game, last time we played them at home this season it went to extra innings. It will be a very good game,” varsity player Lauren Basin said.
The team has already beaten Lyman once this season and they have yet to play East River until this week.
One advantage that the team does have is that they only lost one senior last year.
“The season is going good because we know each other’s strength and weaknesses already, we pretty much have a starting line up again,” Basin said.
Another strength of the team is that they have a lot of team chemistry.
“We have a team dinner every week and that brings us closer together,” varsity player Megan Woodson said.
However, some players know that while they have a lot of strengths, they also have room for improvement.
“We have a very good defense, but we haven’t been hitting much lately. A lot of the games we win are close, if we could hit more we could win by more,” Woodson said.
Fighting to go undefeated this year, the team looks forward to their three games this week.
“ I think we can go undefeated this season. Last year we almost did it but we lost one game to Lake Howell by one run,” Woodson said.
