The team regroups during a time-out at the game against rival Oviedo with a final score of 69-68.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the boys JV basketball team fell to Oviedo at their sixth home game of the season with a final score of 69-58.

Shooting guard Cade Mitchell led the team with 21 points, followed by small forward Jimmy Chapman and point guard Matthew Broome with 12 points each.

At the end of the first quarter, the team was down by three, and by half time the team trailed by 12 points. The team scored 11 points in the third quarter and despite the team’s fight during the fourth, they came up short.

“I really wanted to beat Oviedo since they are our rivals, but now we know more techniques that we need to improve on as a team,” Mitchell said.

Like varsity, JV faces Oviedo twice a year. Last year they won the first game, 56-41, and lost the second. Hoping to avenge the previous loss, the team was focused and ready, but didn’t match up to Oviedo and trailed by 11 points.

The team is now 3-5 overall and suffered a loss the day before against Celebration. The team has many aspects to improve on and hopes to come out with a win in their next game against Harmony on Monday, Dec. 19.
